  Custom Carbon Fiber Interior Trim

For some time I've been considering to change by dark wood trim to something more "interesting" and different. An obvious choice is carbon fiber trim but the associated price tag for any of these kits has put this modification onto the backburner (most kits are selling for ~2500-3000USD once you bought all of the parts).

I was lucky enough to buy a complete interior trim kit for my X5 from eBay at a very reasonable price and at the same time I located a company in Brisbane/Australia who specializes in custom coating processes. I exchanged a few emails and the support and information I received from John @ Modicoat has been outstanding. I sent off my parts via Fedex and after only 2 weeks I had the parts back in my hands.

Modicoat coated the parts with a light weave carbon fiber design and the finish and craftsmanship is phenomenal,  the look and feel like OEM parts and everybody who's seen the parts has been very impressed. If you every need any parts custom coated John@Modicoat is your man and I can highly recommend them as they have been fast, reliable and extremly customer oriented !!!

At the same time I wanted to see if we can come up with a more permanent solution to the old problem of "peeling" door handles on the X5, I included a set of door handles in my package to Modicoat and had them coated with the interior trim pieces.

Below you can see pictures from the trim before installation

The installation of the trim and door handles certainly will take some time and if you have not removed a center console of an X5 you may to consider the help of somebody who has. The center console trim is held by a dozen of screws which can only be accessed by removing the entire console from the car (and you most likely will need the help of another person just getting the console out of the car). I replaced all of the trim pieces and door handles.

An open item are the inserts for the door handles as I haven't yet decided which inserts I am going to use. At this time I can choose between 3 different inserts. the Alcantara coated ones from my prior project, the CF coated ones or the graphite metallic ones which can be selected for the 4.8is.

Below are a number of pictures from the trim installed (and at the very end the beginning of yet another project). I have lots of detailed pictures but haven't posted them due to space constraints on this page.

Below are the beginnings of another project for fall ....
